Flat-foot Dancing Workshops and Performance

Award winning instructor and master flat-footer Paul Anderegg from North Carolina will get you truly stompin’ at the Stomp. We are excited to have him dancing with us all day Wednesday, July 27!
10am (Wed.)- Flat-foot 101 Class for Kids (for kids registered for the morning Kids Camp)– Straight from the mountains of Appalachia this beginner friendly class introduces kids to the funny stories, history, styles, steps and all-out fun of Appalachian percussive step dance as they learn to sing and dance to simple childrens songs. There will be demonstrations, practice sessions, questions, and music for all to enjoy. No special shoes or partner required. The student leans the Soldier’s March, Soldier’s Double Step, Mitchell, Bowman, Leaf Shuffle, and Zig Zags. Time 45min to 1hr.
12noon (Wed.) Lunchtime Performance – In Search of Flat-footing – Take a journey with Paul Anderegg through the mountains of Appalachia as he searches for the origins of this elusive dance as he tells a tale through the sounds of his feet and his storytelling. In his travels he discovers fascinating characters, funny stories, amazing skills, and eventually comes to uncover the source of this dance in an expected place. **With live fiddle and banjo music!**
4:30pm (Wed.) Workshop – Flat-foot 101 – Straight from the mountains of Appalachia this beginner friendly class introduces the student to the funny stories, history, styles, steps and all-out fun of Appalachian percussive step dance. 6pm (Wed.) Workshop – Technical Compound Class – An intermediate flat-footing class introduces the dancer to the six basic compound steps of flat-footing: Buck Step, Indian, Zig Zag Variations, Pitter Patter, Touch Chug, and Back-Step. The student learns to add a variety of motions and substitute sounds to these six steps to create beautiful and hypnotizing rhythms. Prerequisite: Flat-footing 101 class highly recommended, or for intermediate to advance dancers. Time 1:15 to 1:30hr.
